It Won’t Be Long Before Christmas Comes

Snowball for Christmas

It won’t be long before Christmas comes.

Already I hear them cutting down trees.

What will you spend?  What will it cost

Before you get tired trying to fill that void?

Perhaps you have a dream of

Driving down some country road,

Snow is falling and night seems long, but at the end

Mama is waiting, forever waiting for you…

Sometimes at night when you’re all alone,

Fall down in silence into darkest core.

Say goodbye to the surface, admit to yourself

You’ve hung on to dreamy shallows far too long.

You think you’re so smart, but then still afraid,

Living alone on the darkest streets.

Sooner or later, you’re gonna run outta time,

How long you wait is up to you.

You can go on forever, but not really—

But sometimes it feels this way, forever.

We cling to snow clouds that cloud our vision,

Never wanting, always fearing, clarity of sky blue.

Your only hope is to finally let go.

Stop swimming away from your deepest self.

Take the risk.  Take the dive.  My only promise is that

Water’s deep— a reservoir of uncried tears.

What will it cost?  What will you spend?

What will you do when they’re cutting your tree?

Will you finally let go and fall to your knees

Or will you just keep waiting till Christmas comes?
