Upon Watching a Meteor Dart Through the Night

meteorIn still of the night
While walking the dog,
I was given gift of bright light,
Brilliant meteor flashing through the dark.

It was born and lived for only a few seconds,
Then burned out, leaving only delight.
Standing for another twenty minutes,
Cold seeping into bones,
There was no repeating.

Stars a thousand light years away
Looked down to find my twinkling eyes,
Learning mystery of heavenly rhythms,
Swallowed by the Whole,
Brevity of the radiant light
Darting through my heart.
