Pillar of Fire

I stood mesmerized, watching the pillar of fire,
Flaming into the night sky as though pointing the way,
This Milky Way that God has provided,
Not only to Moses but to everyone breathing
In the past ten thousand years.
Always there, so I must have been blind
Not to see the surrounding reality of stars,
Forever thinking my small world was all there was.
O Naked Stars of every galaxy, speak to me,
Open eyes so wide that I can
Find you flying free within the sky,
Diving into the silent depths of sea,
Burning bush in desert sands,
Within every crystal healing,
Bringing sacred laughter, song and dance
Into breathless soul, giving and returning,
Speak my name in silence of the night.
