The Swans Have Never Asked the Water

The swans, when flying over the lake
Never stop to ask the water
To reflect their white beauty streaking
Above in sky so blue.

The water did not agree to
Mirror back the swans above…
Yet it always does.
And I benefit while watching
From window in my house
The flying swans, the water in the lake,
The white image multiplied of
Graceful flight passing into sight,
Before passing out of sight.

I seek someone who has forgotten words….
Who knows communion
Is not asked nor given through speech,
So we might sit in silence and share a word,
Share a world held within our hearts—
More fully reflect whatever light
We hold within our souls
Before passing out of sight.
