Moon Is But A Sliver Tonight

Moon is but a sliver of light tonight—
No meat at all on the rib bone.
If caught in the throat,
What would it spill?
Laughter or tears or fear in the night?
Wait a day or two and the Moon
Will disappear in shadow.
Wait longer and it will fatten,
Like a calf or pig eating its fill.
Watch it long enough,
You’ll feel it throb in your chattering teeth.
It’s eerie, this lingering orb,
Waxing or waning, pulling the tides,
Holding power to cause ache in the heart,
Driving lunatics mad by its light.
Unleashed an eon ago, the leviathan
Flickers cold fire in her belly,
Looking for eternal communion.
Do you sense the connection?
