Whisper of Fog on the Ice

 There is whisper of fog
Between me and the hills,
Conversing and whispering
On the lake down below….
An idle space now covered in ice.

If there is call in darkness of night
For battle’s alarm to be heard,
How will I hear on unlistening street,
Wind gusting against urgent call?
A candle in church tower would never be seen,
Too many miles interfere with the light…
So circle the lake and knock on my door
If I fail to join you at dawn.
