Some Nights Stay All The Way To Dawn

Last night, water fell
So hard upon my roof
I could not sleep.
Sheets of rain above
Above dark floating bed,
Island within liquid dreams.

Ascending morning clouds
Sprinkled upturned face;
Drops played upon flesh….
Ran down like tears,
Offering water for thirsty soul in
Need of laughter, prayer,
Quiet hope as port in storm.

Some nights stay all the way to dawn—
The haunting fears of darkness
Just as sacred as
Bird song in early dawn.
Let us welcome both as saviors…

  1. The colliding of realities is nicely pronounced here, Fred. Saviors indeed colliding within our storm.
    Nice going, Fred.
